Clinical Effect of Thiamphenicol in Urinary Tract Infection


Abstract
The effectiveness of Thiamphenicol on 59 cases of urinary tract infection was evaluated in Urologic Department of Ehwa Womans University Hospital & Yon Sei University Hospital. during the past 5 months period from Febrary, 1983 to June, 1983.
The following results were obtained.
1. Clinical results of 57 cases were excellent in 45 cases, good in 4 cases and poor in 8 cases. (effectiveness rate 85. 9%)
2. Of 8 cases of acute pyelonephritis, excellent & good response were seen in 6 cases (effectiveness rate 75%) Of 28 cases of acute cystitis, excellent & good response were seen in 24 cases. effectiveness rate 85%) Of 21 cases of gonococcal urethritis, excellent response was seen in 19 cases and poor in 2 cases (effectiveness rate 90%)
3. 27 strains of bacteria were isolated from our series except gonococcus. All eradication rate was 66%. Eradication rate was high in E. coli (72%) .
4. The distribution of individual CBC values before and after Thiamphenicol treatment was not changed.
5. Side effects were generally mild. Diarrhea, nausea and dizziness in two cases of total 56 cases were observed.
